Thiago Alcantara is still a transfer target for Arsenal

After previous failed attempts to snatch the new shining Barcelona star, people would have expected Arsenal to back off, but they strive on.

Arsenal wans to get yet another very high quality young midfielder from Spain, and what team better to choose for the midfield and playmaking qualities than Barcelona?

After they took Fabregas years ago from Barcelona when he was still only a talented kid, and he turned out to become the club’s icon and one of the best playmaking midfielders to have ever stepped foot in England, Wenger wants to have another attempt and this time Thiago Alcantara is the target.

Alcantara is a 20 year old offensive midfielder born in Italy and brought over to Spain by his parents as a small kid. After playing for Flamengo as a youth player, Barcelona took him in after they saw his potential.

Two seasons later, he was promoted to Barcelona B and made his debut at the age of 16. He then managed to make the debut for the first team at just 18 years old in 2009 and gathered 23 appearances since then and scored 5 goals.

He also played for Spain’s national team at every age group, and also gained two appearances in the senior squad in 2011.

Arsenal had submitted a £25 million for the player, which didn’t prove to be enough, but after Fabregas’ departure to Barcelona for a transfer fee way lower than his market value, Barcelona might be more accomodating with the fee if Arsenal decides to try again in the winter.
