According to “The Mirror”, Arsenal is now interested in buying Fiorentina’s 27 year-old winger Juan Manuel Vargas in January.
Vargas joined Fiorentina in 2008 for a €12 million fee after a weird turn of events. The player has previously agreed to sign with Spanish giants Real Madrid, but ended up joining Fiorentina and receiving criticism for his actions.
Upon joining Florence, he had a very rough time playing on the left-back position, but then the coach discovered that the player would be an amazing asset if played further in front, and since then he has proven his worth for the club, becoming one of the most important players for the Viola team. Since 2008 he played 80 games for them and scored 12 goals, managing many assists and even more plays that lead to goals.
The only problem with the transfer is that Vargas is more a winger than an attacking midfielder, and Arsenal already has plenty of those. With Walcott, Arshavin, Gervinho, Chamberlain and Ryo all fighting for the winger role, another one brought to the club won’t help Arsene’s case. He needs a midfielder who can play a bigger role in playmaking than Vargas. Players like Marvin Martin or Eden Hazard would be more useful to the team, but we must wait and see what Wenger has in mind. Do you think Vargas is good enought?
