Arsenal’s Dutch striker Robin Van Persie managed to score the 99th and 100th goal yesterday in the game against Bolton Wonderers, therefore entering a very select club of Arsenal players. He is only the 17th Gunner in history to have passed this mark and now he will be an important part of Arsenal’s history forever.
The goal scorer’s ranking is lead by Frenchman Thierry Henry, who managed to score 226 goals in 370 played games for the Gunners, of which 174 in the English Premier League. The second place holder is Ian Write with 185 goals in a total of 288 played games.
Robin Van Persie managed this performance after 6 seasons under the Gunner colours. The beautiful side of the story is that Robin got to have this pleasure while being Arsenal’s captain. He is not the first Dutch player who passed the 100 goal mark, Dennis Bergkamp holding the 10th position in the board with 120 goals in 423 played games.
Van Persie surely has time to still become the most prolific Dutch striker in Arsenal’s history, and perhaps even aiming for more. At the age of 28 he can still have another 5 or 6 seasons at the London club in which he could even score another hundred goals. We all wish him luck and hope that his goals will also bring Arsenal trophies in the future.
