Drogba on a free? Get him Wenger!

After again being linked with a move for Chelsea’s Solomon Kalou last week, it has now been suggested that Blues battler Didier Drogba could be available for a free at the end of the season.

In what would be an uncharacteristic move for Wenger, adding an older head to the dressing room would be something a novelty but one that would offer guidance and take some pressure off the numerous weary attackers playing each week.

If Arsenal were to sign him during the summer, Drogba would be 34 but in this case, age would surely prove not to be a problem. Despite only starting 2 league games so far this campaign, the Ivorian has delivered a goal and an assist, as well as performing to decent effect in all 5 of his total appearances.

Drogba – the 2006 African Footballer of the Year – is the same height as Chamakh at 6ft 2in but would offer far more power and heading prowess to the frontline. On top of this, a profit could easily be made with the realistic £10 million sale of the aforementioned Moroccan to PSG in a duo of deals that would see us land a player who scores more, has far more experience and who has captained both his club and his country for nothing.

Arguably the biggest (and only?) issue with such a transfer would be his wage demands. He has enjoyed a £105,000 a week salary in his seven year stay at Stamford Bridge but it seems unlikely that he would be offered that at the Emirates, with Van Persie only being offered £90,000 in a plan to tie him to a new deal.

Still, if wages proved not to be an issue, could the young Arsenal side not accommodate at least one more experienced face?
