26-year-old German striker Lukas Podolski’s club FC Koln was contacted by Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow for a possible transfer in January, but they were told that the player is not for sale.
Podolski is one of Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger’s primary targets along with Leandro Damiao and Moussa Sow, but the Frenchman seems obliged to search elsewhere for a striker because Koln is not willing to let him go.
Volker Finke, sporting director at Koln, declared:
‘There were no numbers on a possible transfer or period when the transfer should take place,’ he told Bild.
‘But that does not matter. We want to extend his contract.’
Wenger still has other options around Europe of strikers who can help Arsenal in the Champions League as well, but he also has eyes on Internacional’s Leandro Damiao. Podolski is the type of striker who can blend in better with the team, but it’s still questionable if Robin van Persie will make a good pair with him.
