Good news bad news situation at Arsenal where Wenger still has to deal with full-back issues. The bad news is that Kieran Gibbs is still unavailable for the Villa match although it was previously thought that he would be fit in time for the match.
The good news is that right-back Bacary Sagna shrugged off his injury and has began easy training sessions, so he’s expected to be back soon.
“Kieran Gibbs has unfortunately had a setback and he is not back yet,” Wenger told the club’s official website.
“It’s very disappointing because we had good hope that he would be back for tomorrow’s game, but he is not available.”
“Ryo is joining in normal training on Friday, so he is completely back from injury,” said Wenger.
“Fabianski has practised today (Tuesday) and should be available for next week.”
“It depends now on Gibbs,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “He sees a specialist again today [Tuesday] and if something happens there that he has had a real setback then possibly, yes.
“It is not a shop, you just take a good opportunity that is on the market when you can. Overall that’s what we are doing at the moment. We are starting to look at players if Gibbs is not back.
“On the other hand we have good news on Bacary Sagna because he has started to run again yesterday and today.”
Arsenal will have to go on the market for a full-back, but unfortunately the main target Wenger was aiming for, Netherlands international Gregory Van der Wiel is now very close to a move to Valencia so Arsenal’s scouts will have a lot of work to do.
