Arsenal injury update: Sagna and Vermaelen to face Man Utd, and Wilshere getting closer

Arsenal fans have been very annoyed that Arsene Wenger hasn’t dipped into the transfer market to cover for the unending defensive injury problems, but it seems that there is now light at the end of the tunnel.

A report in this morning’s Mail says that Thomas Vermaelen is set to return to the side to face Manchester United this weekend, while Bacary Sagna will be back in the squad although he is unlikely to be fully fit after four months out with a broken ankle.

It has also been revealed that Wenger is expecting Jack Wilshere to return by the end of the month and could be in line to make his first appearance of the season against Blackburn on February 4, or Sunderland the following week.

With the crucial Champions League match against AC Milan coming up on the 15th Feb, Wenger will be hoping that last season’s Young Player of the Year will have had a little game time to be ready for the clash in Italy.

But you can be sure that Wenger will not be taking any risks of introducing him too early and will want assurances that he is completely fit enough to play before putting Arsenal’s most valuable youngster back on the pitch competitively.
