Bayern Munich get the jump on Arsenal in bid to sign Giroud
It has been revealed today that Arsenal target, 25-year old French international Olivier Giroud, is drawing great interest from German side Bayern Munich. The player has told German newspaper Bild that “I haven’t spoken with Bayern Munich personally but my agent has been in touch with them.
Giroud has been tracked by Arsene Wenger all season and his impressive form for Montpellier, scoring 25 goals in just 41 games, has propelled the club to the top of the French league. French international manager has rewarded the player with his first three French caps, and Giroud responded by scoring in France’s victory against Germany in February.
Bayern Munich have used a number of French players over the years and this could influence Giroud’s decision. He told the German paper that, “Bayern Munich are very well known in France because of all the positive experiences other French players have had. They have all said how well they were received at Bayern and how happy they were at the club.”
Wenger will probably not be too upset if he misses out on the Frenchman, as long as he can hold on to Robin van Persie. Of course, Arsenal already have Lukas Podolski lined up for next year.
