Arsenal have now joined the race for highly-rated Crewe youngster Nick Powell as they look to nip ahead of Manchester United and Chelsea for his signature. The Red Devils are seen as the front-runners to sign the 18 year old, with reports last month even suggesting that the club had put in a £10m bid. But the transfer talks have seemingly stalled since then, thus allowing Chelsea and Arsenal to sneak in. The Gunners have had scouts watch the forward closely over the past few months and Arsene Wenger has been very impressed by his talents.
Both United and Arsenal traditionally invest in youth and hence it is no surprise that the talented teenager has caused a ruffle at both clubs. Chelsea have offered their young players very few chances to rise up the ranks and with Roman Abramovich continuing to splash astronomical amounts on International stars, Powell is unlikely to see first team action at Stamford Bridge.
The Gunners and Man United have fought for many a young talent down the years, with Aaron Ramsey the most recent example as the Welshman picked North London over United a few years back and Wenger will be hoping he enjoys a similar outcome for Powell.
Powell has certainly taken League Two by storm this year with 16 goals for the newly-promoted Crewe and surely he could only get better under Arsene Wenger’s tutelage at Arsenal?
