Blackburn’s Junior Hoilett, a transfer target for Arsenal, has seemingly decided to leave English shores after it was reported that he was headed to Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach. The Canadian winger was the lone bright spark in an otherwise awful season for Blackburn which saw them get relegated to the Championship. His contract expired at the end of the season and the Gunners were linked with the 21 year old, who was a possible replacement for Andrei Arshavin on the left-wing.
But he is set to join Moenchengladbach instead, possibly due to a greater chance of first-team action. And, to top it the German giants will feature in the Champions League next season. Although it is a surprising move by the youngster who clearly had the talent to succeed at the Premier League level, it appears that England’s loss is Germany’s gain.
Arsenal must now look elsewhere for their needs on the left and although they have Gervinho for that role, Arsene Wenger will be keen to add further quality to boost his side’s chances of fighting for the title next year. Lukas Podolski has arrived and the German is also capable of filling the role in the wide areas.
