It is official now, both Arsenal and Manchester United’s club websites have confirmed that terms have been agreed between the clubs, and van Persie will travel to Manchester United on Thursday for his medical. It’s not like we didn’t all know it was going to happen?
A statement on Arsenal’s website reads –
“Arsenal Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for the transfer of Robin van Persie to Manchester United.
Van Persie will travel to Manchester on Thursday in order to agree personal terms and complete a medical ahead of the proposed move.”
Meanwhile the same statement has also been published on the Manchester United official site. The transfer fee involved in this is believed to be around £22m. This is also, incidentally, the first time any player has joined Manchester United from Arsenal under the reign of Arsene Wenger.
Certainly this is not something that has come out of blue for the Gooners. They have been expecting it. Even the most optimistic fan knew that the Dutchman’s reign at the club was over. But perhaps what will irk them most is the fact that Arsenal have once again sold their key player to a premier league rival. How this will affect the title race is yet to be seen, but certainly this has to be the biggest transfer move this summer.
To make matters worse, Arsenal’s prime target Kevin Mirallas is also set to join Everton. With more money to spend now, one should expect Arsene Wenger to go in the transfer market and make some big moves to help the club and the fans get over this van Persie transfer saga.
