Another trophyless season at the Emirates has come and gone so Raymond Doyle from FootballTips.com looks at five players that Arsene Wenger should bring to North London to bring silverware back to Arsenal Football Club.
It is widely accepted than David Villa will leave Barcelona this summer and Arsenal are leading the chasing pack for the signature of Spain’s all-time leading goalscorer. Villa has failed to rediscover his very best form since coming back from a serious broken leg but would still been seen as a major signature for the Gunners. Wages may just be a significant stumbling block for the transfer to get completed.
The big Belgian has had a fine season at Goodison Park with 12 goals for the club in all competitions. His pre-Christmas form was exceptional and could well be ready to leave Merseyside now that David Moyes has gone to Old Trafford. Fellaini would give that much need physical presence in the Arsenal midfield than has been missing for some years now. Can play as both a defensive and attacking midfield player alongside Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere.
The Rep of Ireland international has been in fantastic form for Wigan this season and now looks likely to leave the DW Stadium following their relegation from the Premier League. McCarthy showed against Man City in the FA Cup final that he can be more than a match for one of the best midfielders in European football in Yaya Toure. Would provide excellent cover for the likes of Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere.
Despite former Stoke boss Tony Pulis previously saying “The fact we’ve signed Jack (Butland) doesn’t mean we’re going to sell Asmir” many pundits are expecting the Bosnian to leave the Britannia this summer. Both Liverpool and Man United have been linked with the goalkeeper but Arsenal could well do with his services. Wojciech Szczesny’s season had plenty of highs and lows including being dropped following the Champions League home defeat to Bayern Munich. Time may well be right for the Gunners to join the race to sign Begovic.
The end of season form of the Gunners proved a major plus point for Arsene Wenger as they claimed Champions League qualification for an incredible 16th consecutive year. However the form of Thomas Vermaelen has been a worry. Wenger needs to add strength in depth to his central defense and the addition of Williams would certainly benefit Arsenal next season.
These Five should be enough to grab a trophy for Arsenal. What do you think?
