Arsene Wenger has turned his radar to the Bundesliga and German talents in recent times. After signing Mertesacker, Podolski, Gnabry and the latest Ozil, he seems to be closing in on the next German talent Julian Draxler.
Express reported that Arsenal are favorites to sign Draxler who has a release clause of €46m.
ESPN reports that the German club Schalke are ready to seal the deal for Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Sidney Sam which could mean they are now ready to sanction the sale of their priced asset. In the light of that, it would be a tug of war between his Premier League suitors Arsenal and Chelsea.
But going by Draxler’s admission in the past that he would like to play for Arsenal in the foreseeable future, the Gunners might just have their noses in front in the race for his services and renowned Journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft who broke the news of Ozil’s arrival at Arsenal even when it sounded ridiculous further fuelled the rumour when he revealed that the Gunners are favorites for the talented youngster.
Should Draxler arrive at Arsenal, where would he play? The Gunners are currently spoilt for choice in attacking midfield with Ozil, Cazorla, Wilshere and Rosicky. Probably, Wenger is already thinking ahead and preparing to groom Draxler as Rosicky’s successor. That won’t be a bad idea.
Another way to use Draxler would be to deploy him on the wings and that would allow our current wingers; Walcott and Podolski to move centrally and play as central strikers. Could it be that a move for Draxler could be Wenger’s answer to a striker crisis?
