Arsene Wenger Looks To Real Sociedad’s Antonie Griezman For Width Variation

News coming through this morning is that Arsenal are in advanced pursuit of Real Sociedad’s terrific winger Antonie Griezman. The gooners have struggled a lot this season to see off teams that compact the midfield due to lack of width play since the injuries to their regular wingers in Theo Walcott, Chamberlain & Lukas Podolski. Improvised wingers from Jack Wilshere to Cazorla have been employed but have all but just managed to give enough on the field of play.

A well-defined winger would help provide outlets for the well-crafted interplay that the Arsenal midfield continually produce in the middle of the park and hence giving opponents more work to do as they attempt to close down all the gunners’ channels on the pitch. Reporting this morning, gooner blogger turned Metro newsman Jamie Sanderson states that Griezman has been a long term target for The Arsenal but with his parent club keen on keeping him despite a host of other big clubs in Europe showing keen interest.

Should the Gunners secure the French man’s signature this January, it might serve as more testament to the long term plans of the Arsenal boss for the crop of talents we currently have at the club who have been employed on the wings on various occasions. These include both Serge Gnabry & Alex Chamberlain whom the manager has come out on numerous occasions to publicly declare the two as prospects for more central berths in the future. On one occasion Arsene Wenger has also been quoted saying that The Ox can transform into a central striker if he desired to.
