According to Dailymail, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is monitoring a mystery Bundesliga striker as he looks to strengthen the Gunners attack when the transfer window opens next month.
The report claims the Gunners manager is ‘interested in a striker in Germany’ although it fails to elaborate on who this might be. Wenger is expected to be active in the transfer market next month, with another forward to supplement Olivier Giroud thought to be a priority.
Arsenal have enjoyed a strong start to the Premier League season, and currently sit top of the table ahead of other fierce title rivals City, Chelsea and Liverpool. But since the title isn’t won in December, Arsenal will have to fight till the tail end of the season and if they are to sustain a title challenge that long, they will need to strengthen the attack that has only Giroud as the recognized striker since Nicklas Bendtner who is the club’s only reserve striker isn’t really rated.
The need for a striker has been further highlighted by Giroud’s sudden loss of form as the French striker had gone 8 games in all competitions without getting a goal. Spurning gilt-edged chances in the process.
On the mystery Bundesliga striker, who could he be? Could it be Lewandowski? Then that’s not clandestine as the Gunners have been linked with him for some time now. Should the Pole continue to stall over a new deal, Dortmund would be keen to sell him in the winter window to at least recoup part of their investment and probably prevent him from joining domestic rivals Bayern Munich. But can Arsenal convince Lewandowski to shelve his dream of a move to Bayern as he has previously maintained his desire to play for the Bavarians.
If it’s not him, who could it be? There are many good strikers in Germany but hidden and there’s a man that can be trusted to unearth the hidden gem, it is Arsene Wenger. Fingers crossed to see who he emerges with.
