The Daily Mirror have reported today that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has sent chief scout Steve Rowley to check on twenty year old Nottingham Forest defender Jamaal Lascelles. They also claim that this was not the first time he was being watched by the Arsenal scouts and this was just a mere update for the manager, who plans to swoop for the defender soon.
Lascelles has consolidated his place in Forest’s first team since first being given a run in the team in the 2011-2012 season. He has represented England in every youth level and is a part of one of the tightest defenses in the Championship this season.
He stands at 6’2″ and as with any player of that height, is able to cope well with any aerial threats. He is strong and has shown great resilience to physical forces in the league. He is also known to have a bit of pace about him so that just about checks every box that Arsenal will be concerned about with regards to a defender.
The Arsenal defense has established itself as one of the best in the league this season but fears persist that one or two injuries could seriously dent a title challenge. There are currently only three recognized center backs at the club with Sagna having to deputize at times and so a move for a central defender makes sense at this time.
However, it is unlikely that Forest will be inclined to sell one of their best players when they are on a serious hunt for promotion. This one might just have to wait till summer.
