Arsenal manager may have been presented a perfect opportunity of finally making a world class striker signing this month after it emerged that the PSG hitman is far from happy at Parc de Princes. Striker Edinson Cavani is very unsettled and it is rumored he might be willing to make the switch if an opportunity arises.
Cavani has been underwhelmed with the quality of the French League and believes a player of his caliber should be plying his trade in a better league. Another root cause of his unhappiness has been his position in the team. Cavani is used to being the star man but is now having to adjust in the shadow of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He has been forced to play in the right wing, a position that doesn’t do full justice to his talents.
L’Equipe have been quoted as saying that a move is more likely in the summer as PSG are not willing to entertain the idea of selling one of their star men mid way through the season.
Arsenal have been on the look out for a world class striker for a very long time and this is the perfect opportunity for them to swoop in. But as with any big transfers, this one too has many hurdles the first of which is competition from other teams. Manchester United and Real Madrid have been rumored to be interested and it would be a colossal task to prevent them from turning his head.
There is also the matter of transfer fee. Cavani was purchased from Napoli for a fee upwards of 60m Euros and he costs 10m Euros in wages per season. PSG would be unwilling to sell at a loss as there is no pressing need for them to cash in. Any transfer pertaining to Cavani would require a substantial transfer war chest and Arsenal will have to be willing to spend in large excess to get their man.
