Arsene Wenger has revealed the latest team news ahead of Arsenal’s premier league fixture against Southampton.
Speaking to the media, he confirmed that Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey will be in contention as had been predicted prior to the game against Coventry. This should come as a relief, with games coming thick and fast Arsenal will need all their players to be at their peak and especially players like Ramsey who has had a profound impact on the team this season.
Arteta’s presence should also help as the midfield had been a bit light in his absence and the balance in the heart of the team seemed out of sorts with Flamini and Wilshere reprising his role in the pivot. All in all it is a welcome recovery and just in time for a tough run of fixtures.
However, it wouldn’t be an Arsenal team news with an injury or two and so it has been reported that Jack Wilshere has sustained a minor ankle problem and will not be in the squad to face the Saints. Wilshere seemed to have recaptured the form that shot him to prominence and was just finding his feet in this team and so it must be quit rankling for him and the manager for this to happen now. Most disturbingly, it is the same ankle that has been at the heart of all his injury problems in recent times. Hopefully, it is nothing to be worried about and is just the effect of fatigue.
Thomas Vermaelen is also fit for the game and should be back on the bench to provide back up of needed.
