Arsenal’s reported interest in France winger Antoine Griezmann has been reported in the past with much fervour, often with no evidence to back the reporting media outlet’s claim but Arsene Wenger has confirmed the interest and has admitted that the Gunners are monitoring him.
Antoine Griezmann has been impressive for Real Sociedad this season scoring 19 goals across all competitions with fifteen of them coming in La Liga. He is tied with Messi and Benzema for goals scored in the league this season a feat most strikers would kill for and this, without even playing as his side’s primary striker.
The twenty two year old left winger has earned himself a national team call up after his impressive performances this season and will probably be looking to move on to a bigger stage after the world cup.
Griezmann has long been associated with a move to Arsenal, with the most recent link coming up in the recently concluded January window with Arsenal reported to have bid £20 million to procure his services. Nothing came off it as the player was believed to be unwilling to move in between a season, especially, a season where he has established his name as a ruthless goal scorer. He feared that a move could see a lapse in form and this in turn could cost him a place for the world cup.
“Yes, we follow him in great detail,” Wenger told the press.
“He attracts other clubs as well, But we follow him, he is a known commodity.”
Wenger has a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal that can play on the wings but not many with pace and skill that can offer a bit of directness to their play. Podolski seems to be out of favour with the manager and with no one else providing width on the left, Arsenal might follow up their interest in the summer. It is believed that Sociedad are looking for a price in the region of £30m.
