Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Laurent Koscielny is a doubt for the FA Cup quarter finals against Everton.
Koscielny had travelled with the French squad but didn’t feature as he felt tightness in his hamstring in training prior to kick off.
“We have a doubt about Koscielny who has come back with a hamstring problem and didn’t play for France. All the other players come back in good shape.”
“His scan is clear but we will have to test him today.”
The manager’s words seem to indicate that Koscielny is not completely ruled out from the game against Everton and there is a good chance he will still make it.
Koscielny has formed a solid pairing with Per Mertesacker in recent times on which Arsenal have gone to mount a title challenge. The pairing is being talked about as the best centre back partnership in England and perhaps among the best in Europe.
Koscielny’s loss would be a big blow for Arsenal. It upsets the stability in the defence line. Arsenal do have a viable back up, in captain Thomas Vermaelen but Vermaelen hasn’t played in a long time and is only returning from a long lay off. Vermaelen is capable of being the best player on his day but fears persist as he is also capable of some of the worst howlers in modern day football.
Fingers crossed that Koscielny makes it, but if he doesn’t, let us hope that the occasion doesn’t get to Vermaelen and he puts in the kind of shift that endeared him to Arsenal fans in the first place.
