While Wenger is busy ensuring Arsenal are in the mix for the EPL title race and also the FA Cup, the club’s hierarchy have been working behind the scenes to ensure that the Gunners tie key members of the squad to long term deals. In recent weeks, Mertesacker, Rosicky, Cazorla, Ramsey and Zelalem have all signed new deals to keep them at the club on the long term.
While the players are putting pen to paper, Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger’s contract remains firmly in the cooler. The Gunners have made it clear that they want their longest serving manager to extend his stay with them while Wenger had in turn expressed his desire to stay on but the deal hasn’t been sealed yet with his signature.
But if Wenger hasn’t really signed, how come all the key players are rushing to extend their deals? Whether we agree or not, almost all the players currently at Arsenal joined because of the Wenger factor and if they aren’t certain of him staying beyond his current contract which expires in the summer, then, they won’t be renewing.
Most of the players that has played under Wenger would be skeptical playing under someone else at the club and that was the reason giving by Henry when he left in 2007. What then could be happening? It is either of two things. Wenger has already signed the contract extension but it hasn’t been leaked to the media ( Arsenal are good at concealing secrets) so as not to derail the club’s targets this season.
The other been that he might not have signed but has verbally assured all the players that he would surely sign an extension. Whichever it is, Arsene Wenger is gunner stay.
