Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is hoping for a midfield boost ahead of the FA Cup semi final against Wigan at Wembley next week. The Gunners midfield has been lightweight in recent weeks no thanks to injuries to key men; Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil. While the German is a huge doubt for the first trip to Wembley owing to hamstring injury, the British stars could be fit in time to make the trip. According to feelers from Arsenal’s physio room, Ramsey is closing in on a return after his recovery stalled no thanks to setbacks he faced on the road to recovery while Wilshere is nearing fitness from the injury sustained while on international duty with England.
It would be good to have both men back for such crucial match because the FA Cup remains Arsenal’s only bright chance of winning a silverware this season and I believe Wenger would want all hands on deck and all feet available for the games. Wigan might be in the Championship but after what they did to City, Arsenal cannot afford to treat them with kid gloves.
The other good news from the fitness room is that French defender Laurent Koscielny is also closing in on a return from the calf injury he picked up against Chelsea. In his absence, Belgian ace Thomas Vermaelen has done a good job but his performance hasn’t been without the little errors that have cost us dear. I can’t wait to have the dependable partnership of Koscielny and Mertesacker back in action.
For Ozil, he might not be fit for the clash against Wigan but hopefully, he would be on hand to play the last set of Arsenal’s matches this season, including the FA Cup final hopefully.
