When Jack Wilshere limped out during England’s international friendly with Denmark and was subsequently diagnosed with a fractured foot, it looked as though he would not only miss the remainder of Arsenal’s season, he might also be missing the World Cup but according to the Sunday People, the midfielder’s place in England’s world cup squad isn’t in doubt. England manager Roy Hodgson has been given assurances that Wilshere will be fit enough to make the 2014 World Cup as he would have returned to action with Arsenal before the end of the season. That seems true as the midfielder is in line to return for Arsenal’s FA Cup semi final clash against Wigan at Wembley.
It isn’t a surprise that Hodgson is desperate to have Wilshere in England’s World Cup squad. The Three Lions are short of creativity after Cleverley proved he isn’t meant for the big stage and Lampard has been more of a peripheral figure for Chelsea this year. Apart from Gerrard that has been featuring regularly at club level, Wilshere is another English midfielder that has enjoyed regular run of games despite the competitive nature of Arsenal’s midfield when everyone is fit.
I really hope he makes the World Cup as that would be his first major tournament for England no thanks to injuries that have ruled him out of the previous ones but first, le him return for Arsenal and help us finish the league strongly (at least 3rd) and also win the FA Cup.
