According to The Mirror, Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a summer swoop for young Manchester United’s English striker, Danny Welbeck.
The Manchester native is reportedly frustrated with life at the Old Trafford club this season following a negative turn in fortunes for the club under Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor, David Moyes. The Scottish manager was recently sacked by the club after several shocking displays and results in his 10 months in charge, a period which saw Welbeck mostly deployed on the wings instead of his favourite central role during the times he was used by the erstwhile manager.
Due to this, the 23-year old is looking to leave Old Trafford for a new challenge at a club where he would have the chance to be a central striker.
It is no secret however that the lone striker’s position at Arsenal is far from claimed with Frenchman Olivier Giroud delivering epileptic performances and the fact that he does not have the physical presence needed to bully defenders. This has made signing a striker a priority for manager, Arsene Wenger who is believed to be a keen admirer of the former Sunderland loanee.
According to the reports, Wenger is believed to be preparing a huge £20 million summer deal for Welbeck as he looks to inject more quality and youth to his team in preparedness for a title challenge and European sojourn next season.
It is not known if the sacking of David Moyes would heal Welbeck’s frustrations but the chance to play in the Champions League, if Arsenal do pip Everton to the fourth spot could be too tempting for the youngster who has nine goals and an assist in 23 games this season.
