Alexander Song was an Arsenal player until two seasons ago when he got his wish to play for Barcelona fulfilled; but could he be set for a return to the Emirates after wasting his talent on the bench for more than half of the time he spent there?
Not many Arsenal players who left the club in controversial circumstances have gone ahead to hit it big in the club the left us to join. One player who understands the saying that ‘the grass is not always greener on the other side’ is Alexander Song. He made the move to Barcelona two seasons ago, and now reports in The Mirror Newspaper suggest he could be set for a return to the Emirates after becoming surplus to requirement.
Song, whose contract expires in the summer of 2015 has only manages a handful of matches for the star studded Barca team, and could be set to leave this summer to further his career. A return to the English Premier League is an option, but it is not certain as at this time if Wenger actually wants him back as we are already being linked with a move for a couple of players.
I don’t see him back at the Emirates, but a club like Everton or West Ham or Spurs could be an option for the 26 year old Cameroonian international who is set to represent his country in Brazil this year. The Mirror has linked him with a move to West Ham, who could be looking for a replacement for Mohammed Diame who is also set to move on at the end of the season.
One of the issues Arsenal fans have against the former midfielder before he left for Spain was his indiscipline when it comes to protecting the back four. As a defensive midfielder, he was expected to provide cover for the back four, but of course, he was always playing himself out of position.
Rumours of his indiscipline and lateness to training sessions leaked out in the press at the time, and it is not certain that Arsenal fans have forgotten this.
