Why Arsenal Will Beat PSG To The Signing Of Antoine Griezmann

Now that the club football season has officially ended, transfer activities have started in earnest and Arsenal aren’t left out of the intrigues. The Gunners seem to have turned their radar to Spanish La Liga outfit Real Sociedad and they seem to have the Spanish outfit by the balls. Arsenal are eyeing two of their top stars; Antoine Griezmann and Carlos Vela. It is unlikely that Arsenal would sign both men but their future seem inter-woven. The future of one could be a pointer to what happens to the other.

Carlos Vela was formerly of Arsenal and the Gunners have a buyback clause inserted in his contract. This clause could be activated at any time and as though that wasn’t enough, Arsenal could land him for a knock down fee of just 4million euros according to reports. That is certainly far below Vela’s current value in the transfer market. Going by his exploits this season, he is worth at least 20million Pounds.

The next target is Antoine Griezmann and he is said to be valued at close to 30million Euros by Sociedad and Arsenal are key admirers but unlike Vela, they will have to fend off the challenges of French moneybags PSG. Who does Arsenal really want between both men? I believe Wenger would prefer Griezmann since he is at home on both wings and also a goalscoring winger. The fact that he is French would also be appealing to Wenger.

How then can Arsenal beat PSG to his services? The Gunners are bound to lose out to PSG if a bidding war ensues and to avoid that, Arsenal could use Vela as a bait to get Griezmann. They could tell Sociedad that they can keep Vela on the condition that they sell Griezmann to Arsenal at a decent fee and not the inflated value they are bandying around. This would be a win-win situation for all concerned. Vela get to stay at Sociedad and continue his rise to prominence while Sociedad gets to keep one of their best players of last season. In Arsenal’s case they land Griezmann who is one of the hottest properties in Europe. Should Sociedad try to play hard ball, Arsenal could activate their buy back clause and PSG could launch a bid for Griezmann, this fate would see Sociedad lose two players that between them scored 33 La Liga goals. The choice is theirs.

Whenever I consider the corner Wenger has boxed Sociedad into, I can’t but hail his brilliance and ingenuity.
