Di Maria To Arsenal : Why Arsenal’s Waiting Game Could Back Fire

Arsenal are in need of strengthening and have targeted a raid on current European Champions as the best way to achieving it. According to reports, the Gunners have set sights on Real’s Argentine winger Angel Di Maria but before they can get him, Real Madrid must get their targets too. Los Blancos are targeting some players in the summer transfer window and it would cost them big to land these players which means they might have to sell to land those players. According to reports, Real Madrid want Luis Suarez, Ramirez and Toni Kros.

It looks like Wenger wants another bite at the cherry after their success in capturing Gareth Bale from Tottenham last summer. Last summer, Real Madrid’s pursuit of Bale presented Arsenal with the opportunity to sign Ozil. Bet Wenger believes the arrival of Suarez and Ramirez could see a significant slash in Di Maria’s playing time which could make him push for the exit door.

As interesting as that sounds, it is a risky venture. Arsenal shouldn’t pin their transfer plans on Real’s success in the transfer window because the Spanish giants aren’t guaranteed success in the window. Liverpool could dig their heels over Suarez while Mourinho would resist any attempt to sign Ramirez.

The way forward is to keep the options open. Di Maria is undoubtedly a very good winger but certainly not the only one. With Griezmann and Pedro reportedly available, Arsenal should turn their attention towards those other probable ones. I expect Arsenal must have learn from last season’s transfer failings when they couldn’t sign a striker because top targets Higuain left for Napoli and Suarez showed no will power to leave Liverpool.

There is no guarantee that Arsenal won’t be priced out of a move for Di Maria even if they decide to sell just like the case of Napoli. Hence, the need for a plan B. With many options available, Arsenal cannot afford to allow themselves to be at the mercy of the Real Madrid. This summer is to crucial to be sacrificed on the altar of one player no matter how good he is.
