Arsenal are set to make an offer for long term goalkeeping target Pepe Reina according to various reports. The Spaniard is still on the books of Liverpool but according to reports, he has been declared surplus to requirements at Anfield. That leaves the door open for a move away from Merseyside. With Arsenal reportedly interested and ready to offer 5million Pounds for the experienced Spaniard, Liverpool would have preferred selling him to Italian side where he spent last season on-loan but the Serie A big spenders aren’t looking like they are ready with a permanent offer.
Arsenal’s first choice goalkeeping position might not be up for grabs but the Gunners are in dire need of a back up especially after the bossman departure of former number 2, Lukasz Fabianski who left for Swansea in search of more first team football. Arsenal need a competent hand to not only act as back up to incumbent number 1, Szczesny but to also push him all the way in battle for the first choice. Szczesny is good but needs to be kept on his toes with healthy competition if we must prevent complacency creeping into his game.
Reina fits the bill. He is older, experienced and seen it all. He would offer Szczesny competent challenge while also offering proper mentorship to both him and highly rated youngster Damian Martinez. Arsenal are yet to buy a player directly from Liverpool since Wenger became manager. The Gunners failed with a move for Suarez, would they succeed with Reina? Time would tell.
Arsenal are ready to offer out-of-favour Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina a Premier League lifeline and are plotting a £5million bid. Reina has been told to leave Anfield this summer but Napoli, the club where he spent last season on-loan, have so far failed to make a permanent offer for him.
He admitted this week that he faces an uncertain future, but Arsenal want to end the speculation by bringing him to north London. According to reports, Arsene Wenger is set to make a £5million bid for his services and believes he stands a good chance of getting his man. The Gunners are in desperate need of a second goalie after Lukasz Fabianski left for Swansea, and Reina has been a long-term target.
