Why Signing Sanchez Could Mark The End Of Podolski’s Time At Arsenal

Arsenal are expected to be active in this summer transfer window. The Gunners have been linked with plethora of players as Wenger seeks to strengthen the different departments of the team. One key area that Wenger is looking to sign players into is the attack. The Gunners have been linked with a move for Barca’s Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez. The deal is said to be close but should it eventually sail through, Arsenal fans would certainly be excited but it might seal the fate of another of Arsenal’s current star.

Arsenal’s German forward Lukas Podolski might find his place in the first team under serious threat. Since his move to the Emirates two seasons ago, Podolski has been deployed on the left wing and has not been a super regular in the team. Last season it became even worse as he was used more as a substitute. The arrival of Sanchez would further push him down the pecking order.

Sanchez could be deployed as a striker but it is unlikely that Wenger would do that, as Le Prof might want to play him on the left where his pace and trickery would prove a good foil for Giroud’s cut back and aerial ability.

The way out for Podolski is to probably leave Arsenal for another club. He has already been linked with a move away from the Emirates and Italian goalkeeper who spent last season on loan at Arsenal Emiliano Viviano has urged him to join him at Fiorentina and I advise him to consider the move as he is likely to play more regularly and in his preferred central forward role.

Hopefully, Fiorentina or any other interested party would be willing to pay Arsenal a decent fee. It makes no sense to keep a player as experienced as Podolski on the bench neither does it make sense to pay a huge transfer fee for a talented player like Sanchez and keep him on the bench. If Wenger has set sights on Sanchez, guess he is already prepared to let go of Podolski.

Another reason why Podolski might also be leaving is the imminent return of Joel Campbell. The Costa Rican forward his proven a revelation at the World Cup and deserves his opportunity at Arsenal. It seems Wenger is ready to give him the chance.
