Arsenal has never been a club that does things the easy way, there is always a tendency for many to think that the club delights in besting it past efforts doing things the hard way as it tries to get transfers done. Over the years, the club’s fans have become used to the late transfer trolley that accompanies the last day of the transfer window. But rather like a scene from the Wizard of the Oz, the club did the unusual to make a major signing in Alexis Sanchez before pre-season started which still remains like a dream to many.
However, delays have always been an issue with Arsenal transfers where certain deals sometimes take ages to be confirmed after strong media reports that a deal had be completed.
Like the Oliver Twist in many fans, there is still an element of wonder as to what could be holding up the transfer of Mathieu Debuchy. The transfer was apparently meant to be announced by the club last week. But there are now reports that the deal could be announced this week.
Does Arsenal fans have anything to get apprehensive in respect of the delays involving the announcement of the French and Magpies 28 year old right back?
The answer to such a question depends on the angle that the reports are interpreted from. There have been several reports that Newcastle intends to get in a replacement for the Frenchman before giving the green light for the deal to be announced. Already, it has been reported that the Frenchman has had his medical and the necessary transfer details have been sorted.
Despite this, the delay is reportedly from the Newcastle end, with their planned signing of Daryl Janmaat who was deemed the replacement not coming to fusion.
Like most transfers, permutations and speculations regarding any delays are normal, as most transfer could take days, weeks or even months for it to be completed. And as with most things Arsenal, it is nothing new.
The delay might be turning uncomfortable for fans, but the fact that it is not one of those major big money deals that could be gazumped by a money bag club, means it is one that should be confirmed soon. In the end, it will still represent a huge achievement for the club to tie down two major signings in the month of July going by the events of years gone by.
The delay might not be comforting, but there is already comfort that the club is willing to do things differently this time.
