The signing of Alexis Sanchez has not slowed down Arsenal’s transfer wheels which have seen the addition of France right back Mathieu Debuchy. Still, the search for a striker continues with the report linking several players to the FA Cup holders.
Although, there are several indices by which transfer stories are measured, the clearest one yet remains the betting pattern on certain players that have been linked to the club.
According to reports, Arsenal remain odd on favourite to sign QPR striker Loic Remy who is 9m pounds rated and AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli said to be available for 29m pounds. The former’s odds stand at 10/11 while the latter comes at 4/5.
While many will be quick to dismiss these odds as part of the many intrigues and sub plots that involve the transfer window and as such nothing much should be read into it, it nevertheless, serves most times to show the direction in which a particular transfer situation is heading.
The striker situation has raised many questions. And the signing of Alexis Sanchez has not done much to answer those questions going by the comments of the Chilean in respect of the discussion he had with le prof. Arsene Wenger might see him as a winger after all which makes it important for the club to bring in a prototype striker up top.
The links of Mario Balotelli has divided opinions in the past, and many fans are still sharply divided over the Italian, not for his football abilities, but for the baggage’s that come with him. Though, with his power and understanding of the league, the stories linking him to the Emirates are not expected to go away until perhaps after the transfer window.
Loic Remy on the other hand, has been in and around the press stories as an Arsenal target, but nothing has yet to develop out of the many stories linking him to the club.
In all this, one thing is clear though, that Arsene Wenger has to bring in another striker that can match Oliver Giroud’s qualities, but one with pace, energy and power that will be a different version to the French man. The signing of Alexis Sanchez has not changed the need to bring in the striker the club will need to mount a challenge on all fronts in the coming season.
With Arsenal odds on to sign Loic Remy and Mario Balotelli, it remains to be seen what comes out of it all at the end of the transfer window.
