Arsenal’s quest for a striker that will complement Oliver Giroud has continued even with the signing of Alexis Sanchez after Arsene Wenger confirmed that the club was looking at bringing in two strikers this close season. With the signing of the Chilean, it makes it just one striker left for Arsenal to bring in going by Arsene Wenger’s comments. Although, alot of strikers have been linked to the club, this article takes a look at strikers that are available in the market that the club can bring vis-à-vis the budget of the club.
The 27 year old Uruguayan striker moved to Paris last summer from Napoli for a fee of £55 million. Having endured a difficult first season at PSG after playing in the wings for most of last season as result of Zlatan Ibrahimovic number one status at the club. He could become available for transfer, if PSG moves for Angel Di Maria as widely speculated. As a result, there have been reports that he was unsettled and the striker gave cryptic statement about his future, but with a fee that could go close to £70 it is unlikely that Arsenal would spend that much on a player considering it budget.
The Colombian striker who scored 20 goals in 29 league appearances for Porto last season has been a few of the strikers linked to the club during the close season. The 27 old had hitherto expressed his wish to play for Arsenal. Pointing out that he has a boyhood dream to play for the club. With the striker stalling on a new contract while he considers his options, there is chance that this could still happen as a fee in the region of £30 million would activate the clause in his contract. Although with his height, pace, energy and physique he fits the bill in the Premier League.
The 23 year old Lyon forward is a player that has previously been linked to the club. The player who has just 2 caps for France, said earlier in the year that he would be tempted by a move to Arsenal. A fee in the region of £16 million could tempt Lyon into selling him.
Although, going by Arsene Wenger’s transfer dealings and statement that he would only bring in players that are a huge improvement on what is on the books of the club, it looks unlikely that le prof will consider bringing in a player like Lacazette.
With the several position still left to be filled in the team, besides the striker’s position, there is still time in the transfer window for the club to bring in the players it need to mount a sustained challenge this coming season.
