Iker Casillas Wants Arsenal Move – Reports

Reports in the Spainish have revealed that Real Madrid legend and Spanish captain Iker Casillas wants a move to Arsenal on a free transfer. The 33 year old who still has three years to run on his current deal with the European champions, was largely a peripheral figure at Real Madrid last season, playing second fiddle to Diego Lopez in la liga, after he was restricted to just cup games for Real Madrid.

The position of the Real Madrid legend who made is debut as an 18 year old in 1998, has become even more precarious following Real Madrid’s signing of Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

Although at the age of 33, he still has a lot to offer Arsenal particularly the experience he would come with having won the European Cup a number of times, together with captaining Spain to the World Cup in South Africa in 2010, with the two European Championship he won in 2008 and 2012. Such experience will serve to provide valuable lessons to Wojciech Szczesny.

Besides, he can also be rotated with the Polish goalkeeper especially in cup games, but with his height, and susceptibility to crosses, his introduction to the league would not be easy.

Such players have a way of creating a buzz to a team that would lift a team to new heights which the transfer of Mesut Ozil did last season. And having multiple World champions with the Spanish and German players in the dressing room at Arsenal would create a path to handle big games more appropriately.

Besides, the footballing side, the commercial earnings of the club could be increased through the signing of the Spanish World Champion. As his image used for various endorsement to the club’s benefit.

With the link of David Ospina to Arsenal, it will be interesting to see who Arsenal brings in to give competition to Wojciech Szczesny. The Colombian shot stopper has been a reported £3 million bid from French side Nice.

With the issue of Iker Casillas now in the picture, and Spanish media reporting that the Real Madrid legend is willing to move out of Madrid, his interest could play into Arsenal’s hand in their plan to bring in a back up goalkeeper.

With just Wojciech Szcensny as Arsenal’s only senior goalkeeper in the books of the club. Bringing in an experience head like the Spaniard will balance the experience path at the club. And with Damian Martinez in the picture, he can seamlessly sought in as third choice with the experience of the the Iker Casillas.
