Athletico Madrid Wants Santi Cazorla, Why Arsenal Must Not Sell

The Daily Mail believe that Arsenal midfielder, Santi Cazorla, is close to joining Atletico Madrid this summer, as Diego Simeone is confident he can prize the 29-year-old playmaker away from North London.

The two footed playmaker, has been an integral part of Arsenal since he joined two years ago from financially troubled Malaga. His versatility is his greatest strength. His natural two footedness, means he can play anywhere behind the striker. And over the two years he has done exactly that, as he has been deployed on the right-wing, the left-wing and as the number 10 at Arsenal. But with the imminent arrival of Alexis Sanchez, his place in the starting line-up is under threat. And with playing time not guaranteed, the Daily Mail believes the Spaniard is on his way to Atletico Madrid.

Although it is hit and miss with Daily mail when it comes to transfer news but I sincerely believe there is no point in letting Santi leave at this moment. He has been the most consistent Arsenal player for the past two years. After playing the number 10 role in his first season, where was very impressive, he was willing to shift to the flanks to give way to Mesut Ozil. This proved he was willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good of the team. He also doesn’t shy away from his defensive duties. Arsenal players are often criticized for not tracking back, but Santi is one of few who do track back regularly. His 36 tackles and 31 interceptions, prove he doesn’t shy away from his defensive duties. Cazorla may not look like someone who is a fighter, but on the pitch he is one. Whenever Arsenal has looked poor, he has been the only player on the pitch trying to pull something out of nothing. An example is the FA Cup final where his brilliant free kick out of nowhere, put Arsenal back in the game.

Having recently signed a contract extension, it is unlikely that Arsenal will let such an asset leave. As he is only 29, he still has a good couple of years in him at the top level. Not only is he a good player, but he is a lovely person too. He is one of the most likable characters in the Arsenal dressing room, seldom is he seen without a smile on his face.

Arsenal has a crop of good young midfielders in the team. But the likes of Ramsey, Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlin lack experience at the highest level. That is why Arsenal needs a player like Cazorla to give them experience in midfield and strength in depth.  Ivan Gazidis has come out and said, Arsenal don’t know need to sell their top players to make way for new signings so it times he sticks true to his word and does his best to keep the ever smiling Spaniard at Arsenal.
