Josuha Guilavogui, the 23-year-old, Atletico Madrid defensive midfielder is reportedly wanted by Sporting Lisbon of Portugal who is poised to lose their holding midfielder, William Carvalho to Arsenal. Guilavogui, the former St. Etienne player who some media outfits have linked to Arsenal, has been at Atletico Madrid for just one season, however, lack of first team or regular playing time has caused some speculations linking him away from the Spanish Champions. However rumour has it that Sporting Lisbon, who reports say are close to agreeing with Arsenal for William Carvalho in a £24m move, are willing to spend the cash gotten from the Carvalho sale to fund the transfer of Guilavogui to Portugal.
Guilavogui, who signed on a 5-year contract worth about £8.5m for Atletico Madrid in 2013, has hardly featured for the club since joining last summer. The player is also said to have caught the eye of German club Wolfsburg and they have launched a £11.5m bid for his signature. The French player’s move to Sporting Lisbon may mean that William Carvalho, with many suitors from Europe would likely leave the Portuguese club. That would stand Arsenal in a good stead to snap him up on a long term deal. However, another set of reports that came in have said Arsenal are the ones ready to raid Atletico for the signature of the player, with the Carvalho talks said to be irreconcilable. According to reports in Germany, Wenger is set to rival German outfit Wolfsburg for the 23-year-old. The Arsenal manager would find Guilavogui the cheapest option amongst the defensive midfielder he has been linked with this summer.
If by the amount of times Arsenal is being linked to a player, the next Arsenal signing has to be William Carvalho. The strength of this link to Arsenal becomes fortified by one thing or another, day by day. From Portugal came a report last week that, Arsenal are now considered favourites to sign William Carvalho, after Sporting Lisbon decided to cash-in on the midfielder. This news though interesting, may turn reality or even sour for the teeming Arsenal fans that have taken to social media expressing their hopes, sharing links to the 22-year-old’s performances on video and quoting different pundits on his sterling qualities.
According to the report by Portuguese newspaper Record, the Sporting Lisbon chiefs have held an emergency meeting to discuss the clubs precarious financial position and it was decided they have no option but to sell Carvalho to the highest bidder. Reports say, the club’s desperation to sell as a result of their financial situation has forced them to sell at ‘substantially’ below his £37m buy-out fee. Since then, Arsenal had continuously been linked to the player and are said to have submitted a bid of £24m.
With this links, it is becoming obvious that Wenger is bringing in a defensive midfielder on a long term basis. The ages of Guilavogui and Carvalho, 23 and 22-years-old respectively, are indicative of the gaffer’s plans on that ground.
