According to Daily mail, Arsenal are on the verge of signing West Ham United defensive midfield star Reece Oxford. The paper reckons that despite having 90% signed Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach, Wenger is still interested in signing another central midfielder and will attempt to force West Ham to sell the 17-year-old by making an offer of £10 million for the player.
Oxford who had 12 appearances for West Ham in the just concluded season despite been only 17-year-old. He was man of the match when Arsenal and West Ham clashed in the opening game of the 2015/2016 season. He helped West Ham emerge victors over the Gunners at the Emirates in a 3-2 win.
His wonderful performance has seen him been linked with a move to Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United but Wenger wants to beat the others to his signature. Should he sign for Arsenal, it will remain to be seen where he will play considering Arsenal’s midfield with the signing of Granit Xhaka is now very congested.
Wenger could however buy him and let him remain with West Ham for another year or two. He is certainly not an immediate need for Arsenal but with Cazorla already 30 and next season likely to be his last season with Arsenal, and Reece Oxford able to play the same roles as the Spaniard, Wenger might have identified him as a long term replacement for Santi.
