I doubt there are many Arsenal fans who will complain should Wenger decide it is time to sell Theo Walcott this summer. The Englishman has shown over and over again that he is not one that is to be relied upon and if reports from Italy today is anything to go by, Wenger is ready to replace Walcott at Arsenal with Empoli highly-rated winger Riccardo Saponara.
Saponara has been one of the most creative players in the Serie A this season. In 33 appearances, Saponara has scored five times and created 10 assists. His performance has seen him been linked with a move to Juventus and AS Monaco but according to reports, Wenger is trying to hijack the deal.
The 24-year-old will offer Arsenal way more than Theo Walcott. He is a good dribbler and has an eye for goal. Something Walcott can’t be proud of. Juventus and not Monaco will be Arsenal’s main threat for his signature. However, the lure of regular first team football and the opportunity of making more money ( considering the Premier league clubs are way richer than the serie A clubs ) at Arsenal could lure the player to Arsenal.
Saponara is reportedly available for £18 million and with West Ham said to be interested in signign Theo Walcott, this could be Wenger’s opportunity of getting rid of Walcott and bringing in a reliable replacement without having to spend a fortune.
