Reports from the DailyExpress via The Week describe Arsenal’s reactions to West Ham’s move for Lyon defender Samuel Umiti as “Stunned” as the Hammers have now moved ahead of the Gunners in the chase for the defender.
West Ham fans could be seeing more of Umiti next season. He has been called up to France’s Euro 2016 squad after Jeremy Mathieu sufffered an injury
According to the Express, the Hammers “are now leading the charge for his signature this summer” with coach Slaven Bilic ready to outbid both the Gunners and Tottenham for the highly-rated blocker. The player will reportedly fly to London this week to hold discussion with the officials of West Ham ahead of a move to the Hammers ahead of the new season.
This report if true will be a big blow to Arsenal especially considering the fact that Umiti is a quality centre back, on the verge of becoming world class, and is available on the cheap considering the financial problems Lyon have. He would have been a worthy replacement for Per Mertesacker as the partner to Luarent Koscienly.
However, with Umiti now going to the European cup, he could perform well and convince Wenger to sign especially as there are no concrete rumours linking us with a centre back just yet. We have been linked with the likes of Kostas Manolas and couple of others but nothing concrete so far.
