While everyone seem to be focused on seeing where the Jamie Vardy to Arsenal rumour will end, it appears Arsenal have moved behind the scene and completed the signing of Ricardo Rodriguez from Wolfsburg. Only last week several Germany media outlets confirmed Arsenal are interested in signing Ricardo Rodriguez. Kicker, a very reliable German media house, went further to say Arsenal are looking to activate the 19 million release clause of the Switzerland international.
It appears the deal is now done and dusted. This assumption is based on a quote attributed to former Germany international Klaus Allofs who is now Wolfsburg’s sporting director. The German was asked whether they will be able to keep Ricardo Rodriguez despite the interest from Arsenal, to which he answered;
“When we last talked it was clear: his idea is to leave us.”
Based on this, we can assume Ricardo Rodriguez is already an Arsenal player. This is especially as last week, the player skipped training with the Switzerland national team for unspecificed reasons. Should he join Arsenal, it could mean Kieran Gibbs will be on the way out. Gibbs is reportedly on his way to Liverpool who are ready to pay as much as 18 million to get the former Wimbledon player.
