Liverpool have been reported to be considering biding for English and Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs who has not lived up to expectation after exploding in the Premier League after the exit of Gael Clinchy in 2011. Gibbs had been tipped to be as great as ex-Chelsea and Arsenal left-back Ashley Cole but such comparison has proven to be ill-timed.
It is not yet known whether Arsene Wenger will be ready to sell the defender to a direct rival as it is publicly known that Wenger no longer considers the defender a starting eleven player. Nacho Monreal has excelled in the absence of the defender and Wenger is rumoured to be considering signing one of Ricardo Rodriguez (€25 million target from Wolfsburg), Kieran Tierney of Celtic and youngster Ben Chilwell of Leicester City.
Liverpool are in dire need of a left-back after the abysmal showing of Alberto Moreno in the final of the Europa League against his old club Sevilla in a game Liverpool lost 3-1 (where Brazilian Mariano made a mockery of Moreno).
The main obstacle to the deal is the fact that Gibbs would demand assurances of first team action and would not want to continue on the bench in Liverpool and this might be something Jurgen Klopp might not guarantee him after losing two finals (League Cup and Europa League) last season.
