Arsenal have been given the go ahead to complete the signing of Wolfsburg and Switzerland international defender Ricard Rodriguez after the left back made it clear he wants to play in the same team with his national team mate Granit Xhaka.
According to the report by Metro, Arsenal have already triggered the £19m release clause of Rodriguez and although Wolfsburg feel they can get more money from Real Madrid who are also said to be interested in signing the player, the club has no choice than to keep the agreement they signed with the player as his release clause has now been triggered.
The player had three days ago confirmed he is “excited” by the prospect of playing alongside Granit Xhaka at Arsenal; “That would be exciting, yes, especially because the room arrangement at Arsenal would be fixed as well.”
Rodriguez was one of Wolfsburg better players in the bundesliga last season as they failed to make it into any of the two European club cup competitions. The opportunity of playing regular first team football at Arsenal is obviously too tempting for Rodriguez and rightly so. Arsenal are certainly better than Wolfsburg and at Real Madrid he knows Marcelo will only be first choice. While at Arsenal, he will know he has a good chance against Monreal and Gibbs. Also, next season could well be Monreal’s last at Arsenal.
