According to the Metro, Wolfsburg have revealed they have agreed to sell Ricardo Rodriguez after the left back affirmed his interest in joining the North London club this summer.
Ricardo Ivan Rodriguez the Swiss professional footballer has in recent weeks been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates with the International Business Times reporting few weeks ago that Arsene Wenger was ready to make his interest official by triggering the defender’s 19million pounds release clause. Rodriguez has been described as an accomplished defender who is noted for his strong heading ability and ability to deliver pinpoint crosses. Also, he is noted for his speciality in dead ball situations and for penalty taking abilities emerging as Wolfsburg first choice penalty taker.
The speculation was further fuelled when the 23 year old was quoted in the Evening Standard a week ago as saying that he would like to join fellow Swiss team mate Granit Xhaka who is his roommate on international duty at Arsenal. On joining Arsenal, he said “that would be exciting, yes especially because the room arrangement at Arsenal would be fixed as well”.
Little wonder why Rodriguez was quoted saying that staying at Wolfsburg at the end of the season was ‘unrealistic’ when Wolfsburg finished eight and missed out on any form of European football. Infact, Wolfsburg’s sport director Klaus Allofs according to Metro said “the agreement was indeed made with Ricardo. As we have recently entertained, was clear. His idea is to leave us”
The arrival of Rodriguez would spell an end to Kieran Gibbs time at the North London club as he’s been tipped to find greener pastures elsewhere after becoming second fiddle to Nacho Monreal as Arsenal seem ready to sell if they get around 12million pounds.
