With the new TV money in place, clubs like West Ham, Tottenham, Sunderland and co are now able to spend big and if Arsenal is not careful, they could well end yet another summer transfer window without having brought in the much needed signings. And reports this morning suggest West Ham have entered the race for the signature of Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan.
The Argentine has been linked with Arsenal earlier this year but all the links died down when news broke that Arsenal had triggered the release clause of Jamie Vardy. But with Vardy rejecting Arsenal, the Gunners are said to have reestablished their interest in Icardi.
Said to be available for €40 million, Icardi is one of the few quality strikers Arsenal have a chance of signing this summer. However, West Ham are not joking, after having a bid of £30 million rejected for Lacazette, the Hammers have now shifted attention to Icardi.
The lack of European football for West Ham next season could however work in Arsenal’s favour. Icardi is certainly the sort of striker Arsenal could do with. Despite playing in such a very defensive league as the serie A, he has managed to score 52 goals in just 105 games. Imagine if he has the opportunity of playing alongside the likes of Ozil, Sanchez and Cazorla, he will have many goal scoring chances created for him which will make his stats even better.
