Despite the fact that so many clubs have signed one or two players or more in the case of Manchester United, the transfer window doesn’t open until the first of July. To this end, Arsenal have been told they should trigger Ricardo Rodriguez’s discharge condition by July 1st for a chance to convey him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
The 23 year-old is currently with the Switzerland team at the Euro 2016 alongside Arsenal new signing, Granit Xhaka. Arsenal can use Xhaka as a tool to convince the player to join him at the Emirates.
Rodriguez transfer fee is €25 million, a value which Arsene Wenger is readily happy to pay to get the services of Rodriguez.
Ricardo Rodriguez has been told by Wolfsburg that the club will not go into negotiation for a less expensive fee if he somehow happened to leave this summer, the club will stand firm and if a club neglects to trigger his release clause by July 1st, the player might not be allowed to leave the Volkswagen Arena this summer despite his call to leave the club.
Rodriguez has justified why he is being chased by the Gunners with fantastic displays at the Euros and has awed hugely in the opening three matches. Wolfsburg executive Klaus Allofs has demanded his cost will be raised after July 1st if his release clause is not triggered by Arsenal FC..
“We are on the alert and we are prepared, they will not get cheaper, rather the opposite” he told Kicker.
Despite reiterating Rodriguez had told the club ‘he sees his future elsewhere’, he warned the Switzerland international may not be able to leave.
“There is enough time to come to a decision during that period, we’d need to internally discuss a transfer at a later date” Allofs added.
“There is sufficient time to go to a choice amid that period, we’d have to inside examine an exchange at a later date” Allofs included.
Rodriguez has been intensely connected with a move to the Emirates this summer as Arsene Wenger hopes to reinforce his defensive options ahead of the 2016/2017 Premier League season.
Rodriguez is said to be keen on linking up with his countryman [Granit Xhaka] at the Gunners.
Rodriguez was asked by Tagesanzeiger whether he would like to join up with Xhaka, who he shares a room with in the Swiss national team, Rodriguez said: “That would be exciting, yes, especially because the room arrangement at Arsenal would be fixed as well.”
Rodriguez moved to Wolfsburg in 2012 from Zurich and has gone ahead to play 125 matches scoring 13 goals, though he is yet to score for Switzerland after 40 international caps.
Rodriguez’s inclusion to the Gunners team would see Kieran Gibb’s nine year stay at the Gunners ended as he would probably want a move out of the club.
