The Gunners are hoping to offer Hector Bellerin a new contract and tie him at the North London club amid interest from Spanish club Barcelona.
Bellerin, 21, has since been linked with a move to his boyhood club Barcelona but the Gunners are reportedly adamant the defender won’t be leaving the North London club at any price.
Arsenal has now moved to tie the full back to a new deal, landing a huge blow to Spanish champions Barcelona in the process as reported by HITC Sport. The new deal is expected to increase the defender’s wages.
According to reports, Arsenal manger Arsene Wenger wants the Spain international to sign the new contract after the European championship competition as other clubs could join Barcelona in targeting the Spaniard should he not act fast.
Arsenal has already contacted Bellerin’s camp about a new deal and it is believed the defender is more than happy to remain at the North London club.
Skysports Guillem Balague is reporting that Barcelona could turn their attention to other targets after being told by the Gunners that the player isn’t for sale. Ballague said:
‘In truth, the player that Barcelona really want is Hector Bellerin and they still think they have a chance of taking him from under Arsenal’s nose.
‘Unfortunately for them Arsenal have made it abundantly clear that Bellerin is going nowhere, at any price, hence Barcelona’s plan B which involves Azpilicueta.’
New Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola is believed to be a fan of the 21 year old fullback and the Manchester club has also been linked with Bellerin.
