Arsenal certainly need to bring in 3-5 players this summer. It is widely accepted that we could do with a striker, a centre back and a wing forward while the remaining two is dependent on whether players leave or not. However, Arsenal have lost out on one of their main targets. Reports from Germany state that Arsenal target Henrick Mkhitaryan has agreed to join rival club Manchester United.
Premier league giant Manchester United submitted a bid that German side Borussia Dortmund couldn’t refuse, knowing that Mkhitaryan would be available for free when his contract runs out at the end of next season.
German side Borussia Dortmund took the chance to have a bit of a dig at Mkhitaryan‘s new club Manchester United, correctly revealing that they finished fifth in the English Premier League last season. They went on to wish him luck in the Europa League (lol).
Hans-Joachim Watzke (CEO) told Dortmund’s official site,
“This transfer was for us on the basis of an entirely new starting situation a difficult balancing advance: Manchester has made us a tremendous value containing offer. Had we knocked it, the player would be 2017 changed free. And we have the personnel issue postponed by only one year”
At some point this summer, it looked the Gunners were close to signing the Armenian international and, in all honesty, most fans are disappointed that the club didn’t, considering his form for German side Borussia Dortmund.
Miki was named Bundesliga Players’ Player of the Season in 2015-16 after he scored 18 goals in all competitions, including one against liverpool in the Europa League defeat at Anfield.
The Armenian is the son of one of Armenia’s most famous footballers, Hamlet Mkhitaryan, who won the first of his 59 caps for Armenia a week before his 18th birthday.
