With Calum Chambers said to be on his way out of the club this summer on loan to a yet to be decided Premier League club, Arsenal certainly could do with the signing of another centre back especially as Per Mertesacker is ageing and increasingly losing his pace – despite the fact that he was one of the slowest defenders in the league before now.
However, according to a report by Daily Mirror, Arsenal are set to lose one of their main targets this summer. According to the report, Arsenal target Kalidou Koulibally is on his way to Chelsea after the Blues got a bid of £30 million for the player accepted by Napoli. The African was said to be Wenger’s ideal choice as likely replacement for Per Mertesacker in the first team unfortunately either due to dithering or not wanting to pay the asking price, the player will be making our rivals stronger.
With Chelsea already having Terry, Cahill, Zouma and Ivanoic in their team, by signing Koulibally they will be becoming stronger and would have replaced John Terry in the long run. While unless Wenger finally decides we are not in 2006 and pay the ongoing rate, we may find ourselves finishing another summer transfer short once again.
A striker and a centre back is a must this summer but unless Wenger decides to pay, we may have to settle for what we have.
