With Granit Xhaka and Takuma Asano already signed, Arsenal are on the verge of what will be their third major summer transfer business. According to various reports today, Arsenal are on the verge of signing highly rated NEC Nijmegen shotstopper Guy Smith. Smith is said be on his way to the Emirates Stadium where he will undergo a medical and should he be successful in his medical, he will then undergo a trial with the club and if successful, he will be offered a four year contract.
The signing of Guy Smith will come as a surprise to many but those who have been attentive with Arsenal news in the last few weeks won’t be surprised. Both David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny have been linked with moves away from Arsenal and it appears Wenger wants Guy Smith to join Arsenal as a replacement for one of the soon to depart more experienced goalkeepers.
Guy Smith, 20, is a free agent having rejected NEC’s offer of a new contract. And he has some experience in the English game having played under Chris Houghton at Brighton and Hove Albion hence he won’t need to much time to bed in if he joins Arsenal.
