According to reports, La Liga champions Barcelona have asked German side Wolfsburg about signing Swiss international Ricardo Rodriguez.
The defender Rodriguez featured for Switzerland at the European championship, playing in all four of his Switzerlands matches. Sporting director of Wolfsburg Klaus Allofs confirmed last month that the Swiss defender wants to leave the German club this summer.
“Rici has stated that his future is not with us,” Allofs told Swiss newspaper Blick. “But we can live with this decision.”
The Gunners have been linked with a move to bring the 23-year-old defender to Arsenal this summer. According to Daily Mail, Spanish club Barcelona are believed to be also interested in the Switzerland international, and have made two enquiries to his German club for the defender.
It’s believed that Wolfsburg had been holding out for a bid to trigger his minimum release clause of £21million. It’s thought that the clause has now expired, and Wolfsburg are expected to allow him to leave for significantly less.
