After enduring a disappointing season the last time out, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger seems very keen on bolstering his squad ahead of yet another title challenge. To this end, Arsenal according to reports from Spain are set to sign Atletico Madrid central-back Lucas Hernandez who has previously been linked with a move to the Emirates.
The France under 20 star is said to be frustrated with the lack of playing time at Atletico Madrid. He played ten games for Atletic last season as they finished third in the La liga and got to the final of the UEFA Champions League. He has three cups for France at the national team level but believes it is time for his career to truly kick on.
Wenger is said to have identified him as the long time replacement for Per Mertesacker who will be 32 in September and has just one year left on his contract and his yet to be offered a new deal. Knowing Wenger, it will not be surprising if Mertesacker leaves Arsenal and Lucas Hernandez replacing him will make perfect sense.
Spanish media houses believe the Gunners can get a deal done for a little as €18 million.
